What is Cellulite?

Cellulite occurs when fat pushes against connective tissue just beneath the skin.

When collagen fibers that connects the fat to the skin becomes stretched or breaks down, fat cells can bulge out, giving the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite makes the skin appear dimpled, puckered, and bumpy.

Although most people do not like the appearance of cellulite, it is not a serious medical condition.

Cellulite often occurs on the buttocks, thighs, abdomen, and hips.

Cellulite Symptoms

The main symptom of cellulite is the appearance of lumpy, puckered, or dimpled skin that can occur anywhere on the body but mainly on the thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen.

The texture of the skin often feels lumpy and some may explain the texture as cottage cheese or an orange peel.

Cellulite can occur to thin, normal weight, over weight and obese people.

If cellulite is mild, it may only be seen when the skin is pinched or pressed against.

Cellulite does not cause pain or discomfort.

Cellulite Causes

Cellulite occurs when collagen fibers tighten or break down just beneath the skin which causes the fat to push through.

Age can be a factor because of the skin losing elasticity.

Pregnancy can cause cellulite due to the body drastically changing at a fast speed.

Cellulite runs in families. If a close family member has cellulite that would make a person more susceptible to developing cellulite as well.

Women are more susceptible to developing cellulite than men.

The most promising treatment for cellulite is Laser Therapy.

The effects of Laser Therapy can last approximately 6 months.
